What is Solar PV?

Solar PV or solar photovoltaic is the harnessing of energy from the sun via a series of solar panels and an inverter to convert this energy to electricity. This electricity is then used throughout your home and any surplus is fed back into the national grid.

What are the attractions of Solar PV?

Your home can generate income for you with a Solar PV installation.

As mentioned previously, any surplus electricity produced is put into the national grid. For this you will receive what is called the Feed In tariff from your electricity supplier. However, the biggest attraction of a solar PV system is what is called the generation tariff. This was introduced by the government in 2010 and currently pays you 21p per/KW produced. This is tax free, linked to inflation and guaranteed for 25 years. This payment is made for all electricity produced even if you do not use it.

The rates will change over time but the tariff will be fixed at the level applicable at the time you sign for this tariff.

A typical home pv system will produce around 40% of a household's electricity each year and allow you to claim the tariffs available only when installed by an MCS accredited installer.

We do not believe in offering free panels to customers. Companies installing free solar panels are benefitting from the feed in and export tariffs while the customer only reaps a small portion of the possible income that could be generated. These solar companies offering free panels are effectively renting your roof space to generate money for themselves.

We believe it is you the customer that should benefit from this and not the solar installation company.
